Disc Mill

What is Disc Mill?

A disc mill is a type of crusher that can be used to grind, cut, shear, shred, fiberize, pulverize, granulate, crack, rub, curl, fluff, twist, hull, blend, or refine. It works in a similar manner to the ancient Buhrstone mill in that the feedstock is fed between opposing discs or plates. The discs may be grooved, serrated, or spiked.

Methods to Reduce Wear on Disc Mill

Excessive wear will lead to poor grinding effect and increase the use cost of disc grinding, so we try to reduce the wear of grinding balls in use.The problem of damage to the grinding chamber of the disc grinder is not to let the user reduce the number of times of use, but to pay attention to several factors in daily use, then the damage to the disc grinder can be avoided.

First of all, in terms of the size, ratio and loading capacity of the disc mill, the quality of the disc mill will change with the size. At a certain speed of the ball mill, the greater the quality of the grinding ball, the greater the impact. When configuring the size of the grinding balls, the collision probability between the grinding balls of the same size is higher, and the grinding balls are prone to fatigue wear, and the loading of the grinding balls will also affect the collision probability between the grinding balls.

The production efficiency of the disc grinder is low. The main factor affecting its production efficiency is that the rotation rate of the driving shaft is too low, which leads to relatively serious wear and tear caused by insufficient power. If the distance between the grinding discs is too small, it will affect the flow. If this happens, we should increase the distance as much as possible within the scope.

Then consider the properties of the material to be ground by the disc mill. The hardness, brittleness, shape and size of the material have an extremely important influence on the grinding process of the grinding chamber.

Working Principle of Disc Mill

The feed material enters the dustproof chamber from the filling hopper and is fed centrally between two vertical grinding discs. A moving grinding disc rotates against a fixed one and draws in the feed material. The necessary comminution effects are generated by pressure and frictional forces. The progressively arranged grinding disc meshing first subjects the sample to preliminary crushing; centrifugal force then moves it to the outer regions of the grinding discs where fine comminution takes place. The processed sample exits through the grinding gap and is collected in a receiver. The gap width between the grinding discs is continuously adjustable and can be adjusted during operation in the range between 0.1 and 5 mm; an additional observation window is provided for checking the gap setting.

Disc Mill Machine Structure

It adopts hydraulic transmission, has simple structure and easy operation. The main shaft is supported on two fulcrums. While the moving plate rotates, its axial direction bears the working pressure of the hydraulic drive. Hydraulic oil has strong elasticity. As the pressure of the material to be ground changes, the gap between the moving and fixed plates also changes slightly, which facilitates the separation of fibers.

The gap of the fixed plate can be adjusted, and the gap adjustment of the fixed plate is realized through the guide valve of the hydraulic system. The gap size is displayed by an electric indicator, which is convenient and accurate. When the pilot valve fails, the handwheel, worm gear and other mechanisms can also be used to realize the intermittent adjustment of the moving and fixed plates.

The water seal and water cooling system can take away the heat generated in the grinding chamber in time to prevent the deformation of the wear-resistant sleeve, high temperature of the bearing oil and burning of the packing. The function of the water seal device is to prevent the pulp in the grinding chamber from entering the side of the front bearing.

Set up an electro-hydraulic interlocking protection system that interlocks the oil pump motor and the main motor, seals the water pressure micro switch and the main motor, the lubricating oil micro switch and the main motor, and the lubricating oil temperature micro switch and the main motor. To ensure the normal operation of the disc mill.

FAQ

Q: What is the working principle of disk mill?

A: The product is drawn through the grinding disk by centrifugal forces, whereby the static grinding disk is attached to the lid (stator) and the rapidly rotating disk is located below in the grinding housing.

Q: What are the advantages of disk mill?

A: The disc mills are suitable for grinding of many different types of raw materials, including pellets with a diameter up to 12 mm. One of the advantages of the mill disc is that it is possible to vary the degree of grinding during operation, and then optimize the structure to feed different groups of animals.

Q: What is the mechanism of disk mill?

A: The material is ground by pressure and shearing action between two counteracting grinding disks with coarse interlocking teeth. The ground material automatically falls down through a pre-set grinding gap into the collection drawer.

Q: What is the difference between a roller mill and a disc mill?

A: The higher the speed, the shorter the grinding time and the finer the grist, but the higher the energy consumption. Regardless of the speed used, the disc mill has a higher energy consumption than a two-roll mill, but the grinding time is shorter and the malt finer.

Q: What is the capacity of a disc mill?

A: Disc mills are one average 10% more efficient in power consumption than hammer mills and can achieve a capacity of about 6 tons/hour. Machines with capacities of up to 24 tons/hour are available upon request.

Q: What is a disc mill used for?

A: A disc mill is a type of crusher that can be used to grind, cut, shear, shred, fiberize, pulverize, granulate, crack, rub, curl, fluff, twist, hull, blend, or refine.

Q: How does a disc attrition mill work?

A: In attrition milling, an abrasive rubbing action presses the materials between two counter-rotating, metal discs. Materials enter from the infeed into the center of the discs and centrifugal force directs them outward and ultimately through the discs to discharge, ground into the desired particle size.

Q: What is disc mill pulverizer?

A: This type of pulverizer is most commonly known as a Disk Pulverizer or a Disk Mill and can be used for intermittent and continuous fine grinding of hard-brittle and medium-hard materials in the field of mining and metallurgy, glass industry, ceramics industry. Ideal for preparing samples before assaying them.

Q: What are the two types of mills?

A: The two basic forms of milling are dry milling and wet milling where dry milling uses particle to particle contact while wet milling suspends materials in a slurry. There are numerous types of mills, and materials processed by them.

Q: What is the application of disc mill in food industry?

A: PUC perforated disc mills are used for crushing lumpy solid pieces and for mashing materials such as fruit, vegetables and meat, for the pre-comminution of soy beans and in general for the production and processing of foodstuffs, chemical and cosmetic products and the comminution of soaked paper.

Q: What can a mill be used for?

A: A mill is a device, often a structure, machine or kitchen appliance, that breaks solid materials into smaller pieces by grinding, crushing, or cutting. Such comminution is an important unit operation in many processes. There are many different types of mills and many types of materials processed in them.

Q: What is the difference between a grinder and a disc cutter?

A: What is the Difference Between an Angle Grinder and a Disc Cutter? The versatile, durable angle grinder is suitable for applications such as cutting, grinding, polishing and sharpening. Conversely, the disc cutter is a small, single-handed cutting blade which is best suited to light cutting applications.

Q: Can you grind with cutting disc?

A: NO! Cutting-off wheels are for cutting on the periphery ONLY. Why? Cutting-off wheels are thin by design and do not have adequate lateral strength for side grinding.

Q: Can a metal cutting disc cut concrete?

A: In some way,you could cut concrete with a metal cutting disc. But you'll find that there's a drastic difference in the performance. Because a concretecutting disc has a silicon-carbide abrasive. Whereas a metal cutting disc will have either zirconia or aluminum oxide, depending on their going to be used for.

Q: Do grinding discs expire?

A: The reason that cutting and grinding discs have a shelf life is that the resin that is used to bind the disc material together breaks down over time as it absorbs moisture from the atmosphere. This means that an out of date disc could break up during use, with sharp fragments being ejected at a very high speed.

Q: What are the 4 types of grinding machine?

A: Grinding machines fall into five categories: surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, centerless grinders, internal grinders and specials. Surface grinders are used to produce flat, angular and irregular surfaces.

Q: Why do grinder discs break?

A: Improper Machine Conditions. Loose wheel spindle, excessive end play, and loose or vibrating machine parts such as the work-table and the work holder may cause the wheel to bend in the cut and break.

Q: What is the purpose of a roller mill?

A: Rolling mills are used to roll hot or cold ferrous or non-ferrous strips, wires and even rods. Depending on the type of mill it could be used for hot or cold breakdown and finishing of bar, sheet or strip. They can also be used for finish rolling of thin gauge stock, embossing or compacting.

Q: Do I need a rolling mill?

A: Rolling is an important part of the metal forming process because it allows you to reduce the thickness of your metals and remove any variable that would cause them to look uneven. Of course, this can't be done by hand, so you'll need a reliable rolling mill that works for you and your purpose.

Q: How does a grinding mill work?

A: In modern era, they are usually powered by electricity. The grinding of solid materials occurs through mechanical forces that break up the structure by overcoming the interior bonding forces. After the grinding the state of the solid is changed: the grain size, the grain size disposition and the grain shape.
